- Dacia has been a proud sponsor of the Rugby Football League since 2016
As the grassroots season gears up, Dacia, proud partner of the Rugby Football League, has announced the return of the Dacia #FlairPlay Awards. Dacia, with the help of star players Sam Tomkins and Kallum Watkins, is once again asking club Rugby League players up and down the country to share their most creative moves to be in with a chance of winning their community a training session with professional players and coaches.
This season, the judges – Tomkins and Watkins alongside Rugby League legends, Kevin Sinfield, Paul Sculthorpe and Kylie Leuluai – are asking players of all ages and abilities to show them their variation on a basic ‘flick and kick.’ Starting with the ball in a stationary position, entrants must flick it up and finish their move by kicking the ball away but where they will score points is by adding their own special flair to the move.
Anyone who thinks they have what it takes to impress the judges, has six weeks to upload their version of the ‘flick and kick’ to Dacia’s Facebook page or via Twitter or Instagram, tagging in @DaciaUK, to be in with a chance of winning. Anyone looking for creative inspiration can see how the professionals approached it when they were challenged by logging onto the Dacia Skills Showroom at www.dacia.co.uk/SkillShowroom, where the best entries will be hosted during the competition.
The winners, as chosen by Dacia’s esteemed panel of judges, will host a very special day for their club members and wider community with an open training session led by the players and coaches from one of the 12 Betfred Super League clubs and the England Performance Unit.
In addition to the professional players and coaches, Dacia will be providing each of the winning clubs with training equipment and auction items that will not only make sure that the training session is a massive success but also that the club can continue to encourage #FlairPlay for years to come.
Judge, Kallum Watkins said: “Last year’s entries were great but this year, we’ve set a relatively simple move and want to see how people make it their own. Some people might want to challenge themselves to land their kick on a small target, others might want to team up with their mates to get a relay going. The possibilities are pretty endless and I can’t wait to see the moves people come up with.”
Louise O’Sullivan, Head of Dacia UK, said: “We, and our judges, were astounded by the response and creativity we saw in last year’s #FlairPlay entries, whilst the final events we helped our winning clubs host were a great success seeing clubs raising all important funds as well as recruiting new players to their ranks. It was the perfect demonstration of our support for community rugby league and we’re looking forward to helping more clubs unlock new possibilities this season.”
